Experimentation gone wrong
I'm one of those bowlers who, despite being 36 going on 37, is constantly trying to learn new techniques in the hopes that doing so will take my game further than I've been able to take it thus far. When you do that, you're never quite sure what you're going to get. Sometimes things work beautifully, and other times everything seems to fall apart. Sadly, I'm in the midst of the latter at the moment. lol
Game 1
7/ 9/ 62 8/ X 9/ 9- X X 9/X - 180
One of my persistent struggles has involved getting underneath and inside of the ball. As such, I've been experimenting with a PDW-esque push-away and release. It worked beautifully during a practice session Monday afternoon. Sadly, it wasn't working at all during league that night!
I started off with my Nirvana and Grudge, but my release inconsistency led to very odd ball reaction and only one strike through the first seven frames. I quickly scrapped that idea, went back to something more comfortable, and attempted to play the outside with my Tropical Breeze Pearl. I threw three out of the last four strikes, but the early damage only allowed me to grind out 180.
Game 2
9/ X X 9- X X X 9/ 62 X9/ - 200
The Tropical Breeze gave me a decent look here, but it was touchy. If I got the ball wide too early, it bounced and went high. If I missed up the lane at all, the weak cover/core failed to pick up, which is what doomed me to a 2-4-8-10 in the 9th. Still, the shot-making and results were better.
Game 3
9/ X X 9- X 9/ X X 9/ 9/X - 205
I switched the Melee Jab the last game because a teammate was having success with a pearlized ball of his own. I was in and around the pocket all game long, but a whiffed 10-pin and the failure to stretch a string doomed me to a modest 205 and 585 for the set.
Clearly, I'm not thrilled with the lack of scoring lately, but I feel that it's all for the greater good. I'm not content JUST being a typical house bowler. As such, I'm going to continue tinkering with things in the hopes that eventually something clicks that can get me where I really want to go. I guess we'll see.
As always, thanks for reading!
