Better late than never!

I am still in the midst of coaching a middle school girls' softball team, so bowling is taking something of a backseat for one more week or two. As such, I was unable to make tonight's first game due to a road game my girls had. Thankfully, we won, and I was still able to get to the bowl in time for Games 2 and 3. Here's how those shook out:

Game 2

X X 8- 81 81 9/ X X 9/ XXX - 191

Coming in cold, I decided to go with the Brute Strength in an attempt to tame down the wicked angles my Mastermind Intellect wanted to take through the pins last week. Honestly, I really only had one bad frame this game, and that was the fourth when I tugged the ball for a 3-6 and then pulled the spare shot too to chop. Other than that, every other ball was fairly flush in the pocket and stood a good chance of carrying...or so I thought. I left 4-9's in the 3rd and 5th and a high-flush 7-pin in the 9th. Honestly, this was a 191 that felt like it should have been 240 plus.

Game 3

X X X X X 9/ X X 9/ X8/ - 248

Despite my worries about more 4-9 combos - I've left six or so in five games thus far this season - I decided to stick with the Brute Strength, but I made a 4-2 move left in the hopes that I could keep the ball in the oil longer and tame down the backend. The move was correct as I was flush with just about every shot. The sixth ball did creep a little, which resulted in a 4-pin. I was disappointed, but, hey, at least I got the 9 out! I came back with a double before burying the ball and stoning a 9-pin in the 9th. Just to make things fun, I banged another high-flush 4-9 on shot number two in the 10th and made it to finish with 248 for the game and 439 for the two games.

I REALLY liked the look the Brute Strength gave me tonight, but I'm going to have to continue being mindful of how the ball is going through these new pins because 4-9s have been EVERYWHERE. If this continues, I'll need to either go more end over end or add some surface to make sure my ball isn't going through too steeply.

Well, we'll be off for Labor Day next week, so I'll have some time to get things right before taking to the lanes for league again on Sept. 14. As always, thanks for reading!
